And then someone stopped, saw them and decided their life was worth changing.
Before they ever make it to the United States, they may spend weeks with foster care—learning what it feels like to sleep safely inside, to have a full belly, to receive gentle affection, to play with toys, and to trust people.
They decompress. They heal. They learn. They receive veterinary care.
They discover who they are when they no longer have to worry about surviving.
And then comes the journey.
From deep in Mexico, they travel hundreds—or even thousands—of miles toward a life they have never imagined.
Eventually, they arrive in the United States.
And then comes the most important part of their journey:
